International Mother Language Day
Ekushey February
BAFA proudly hosts an annual Provat Feri followed by a cultural program in honor of International Mother Language Day, commemorating those who gave their lives to preserve our language and cultural identity. Held without fail every February 21st morning, our Provat Feri is a powerful act of remembrance and solidarity. Through these events—and by participating in programs hosted by other communities—BAFA remains committed to raising awareness about the importance of linguistic and cultural preservation, while proudly representing Bangladesh on every platform.
International Mother Language Day, observed on February 21, was established by UNESCO in 1999 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity. The date honors the 1952 movement in Bangladesh, where students lost their lives advocating for Bengali as a state language. This day underscores the vital link between language, culture, and identity, and encourages the preservation of mother tongues and endangered languages. By celebrating linguistic diversity, we foster inclusion, strengthen social cohesion, and promote respect for cultural heritage around the world.
